Congrats to Touro Flatbush alum Aaron Maslow (class of '77), who was sworn in as judge for New York State Supreme Court last week! Dean Dr. Robert Goldschmidt attended the swearing in ceremony in support of his former student. “Touro is extremely proud of Aaron Maslow on achieving this high position. He brings honor to his alma mater, Touro University. I am confident that Judge Maslow will serve the people of New York with distinction." Dr. Robert Goldschmidt, Vice President and Dean of Students
As #blackhistorymonth begins, the Touro community reflects on the importance of the month. "We celebrate Black History Month as a reminder how far we have come as Black and Brown people and to remember the giants, the pioneers and common folk, who through their bravery and courage pried open doors of opportunity that today we must continue to keep open despite the politics of divisiveness and fear. In this regard several states are making efforts to suppress Black history, and suppress truth. The reality is that Black history is global and American history, and must be taught to increase our social and cognitive IQ. But just as importantly, as we have seen with the death of Tyre Nichols, the struggle for equality and freedom must continue. Let us never forget that until we -- every race, religion, culture, gender and attractionality -- are free, none of us can be free. Let us salute Black History month and God bless America." -Jeffrey R. Gardere, M.Phil., M.S., D.Min., Ph.D., ABPP, Board Certified Clinical Psychologist and Associate Professor Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine

Touro nursing students turned superheroes! First-year School of Health Science students Ariel Razabi, Shira Schwartz, and Ruth Pando (pictured) were on their way to class when they saw a woman struggling on the ground after falling. Noticing she was bleeding from a head wound, the threesome jumped into action and called Hatzolah, a Jewish volunteer emergency medical service, while simultaneously applying pressure to stop the wound from bleeding. The students knew from class not to move anyone with a head wound and to take her vital signs, and also used other skills learned at Touro including keeping her calm and communicating that they were going to help her and everything was going to be ok. After the ambulance arrived and medical professionals were able to wrap up and clean the cut, these compassionate students went the extra mile in trying to locate the woman’s car and even stayed with her while she waited for her friend to take her to urgent care. They agreed this experience was an important lesson, showcasing the major impact they can make in someone’s life and they’re pumped to help others throughout their careers.
Yesterday #NYSCAS held its first-ever nursing #pinningceremony to celebrate the completion of the associate degree in nursing by our first nursing cohort. The students recited the International Pledge for Nurses and received their nursing pins. “NYSCAS feels like home,” said graduate Anthony Pavella. “The professors were always approachable, all of them were great mentors, and I was never afraid of asking for help.” During the program, the students also provided hands-on care to ventilator-trach patients at one of Touro’s clinical sites, where they gained many of the skills needed to practice. 🎉🎉🎉
