Research Day is an annual event in which we recognize excellence in the multitude of research-based projects being actively carried out by our faculty and students at all levels, across the entirety of our Touro family.

Join us this year as we honor advances in research across Touro University at this year’s Research Day, with the theme, “Resilience and Persistence.” Stay tuned to meet our speakers for this year.

Our speakers this year are highlighted below and will provide a keen perspective on research, progress, successful scientific investigation, and the tenacity required to get there.

Currently, his team is focused on developing new therapies to address metastatic cancer and viral diseases. His work has led to external and internal funding as well as his receipt of the Las Vegas Health Care Headliner Award.

As in years prior, presentations will include some of the high-quality work conducted within the undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools. We will have a juried poster session, accessible before and during Research Day. The best of these can be viewed online for selected presenters.

However, this year we are excited to showcase these endeavors in a new format. Touro University’s Research Day has been system-wide since 2022 now, with more campuses invited to participate each year. The goal is to further encourage and recognize our researchers at a larger scale.

As such, after our esteemed visiting keynote speaker and distinguished speaker, we will be inviting the top five poster presenters to speak as part of the Research Day lineup, in-person or on the screen. We are pleased to begin bridging the gap between those who can enjoy Research Day on-site only and those limited by virtual attendance.

We also invite Touro schools and programs as well as our new campuses to have a representative of theirs present for our inaugural TouroConnects Innovation Forum, wherein booths around the room will be available throughout Research Day for guests to learn about what is going on at our campuses across the Touro University community at-large. This is a tremendous opportunity to explore new relationships for research departments, programs, or collaborators. Please send inquiries or interest in claiming a booth through this survey by April 15th.

All COVID-19 restrictions in effect at that time will apply for our live audience.

Posters

We invite our Touro family of faculty and students at all levels and across all campuses to submit abstracts of their research projects. Eligible campuses are: New York campuses (including Touro College of Dental Medicine), New York Medical College, Touro University California, Montana, Illinois, Nevada, Berlin, Israel and Moscow. All abstracts will be due Wednesday, March 27th under their respective category.

Selected abstracts will be chosen for participation in one or more of the following ways:

  1. Online Poster Presentation (non-competitive):

The deadline for abstract submissions is Monday, April 1st, 2024. Authors of abstracts that meet the entry criteria will be invited to submit their posters online by mid-April and must do so by Tuesday, April 30th. The posters can then be viewed online between May 8th through May 9th. Authors should engage in virtual dialogue by responding to questions and comments posted by visitors.

  2. Formal Poster Presentations (competitive):

To present the very best of what the Touro University community has to offer, student or faculty authors must submit their abstract by Monday, April 1st, 2024. If authors wish to be considered for formal poster presentations, they must indicate so in their abstract submission. By mid-April, those with the highest scores will be informed to submit their poster online alongside others, and to NYMC-OVPResearch@nymc.edu for the final judging no later than Tuesday, April 30th. The earlier authors submit their poster for the formal poster presentations, the better. The top posters’ authors will be informed if chosen to present as part of the Research Day line-up on May 9th. Each will have ten minutes to present. All abstract and poster judging will be done by a committee of faculty from various disciplines across campuses.

Please note, this portion of the event will NOT be exclusive to student-led projects. See below for the student poster competition.

  3. Poster competition for student-led projects:

First and second place prizes for best student-led projects in each of four topical categories will be awarded from among those posters chosen for presentation in person. The four topical categories are:

    Applied, Clinical, & Translational Research

    Basic Sciences & Natural Sciences

Public Health, Epidemiology, & Health Sciences

Social, Behavioral, Educational Sciences, & Humanities

To be included in the competition, student authors will be required to submit their abstract online by Monday, April 1st, 2024, and if notified of selection for presentation at Research Day, must submit their final poster by Tuesday, April 30th.
