Podcast: The Faculty Chronicles
Launched in Fall 2020, TFC is a podcast sponsored by the Touro Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). The podcast brings to life the stories behind the great works of Touro faculty, across disciplines in all our schools. TFC focuses on issues of classroom innovation in teaching and learning, science, business, medicine, education, wellness and so much more. The TFC podcast highlights faculty accomplishments, expands CETL’s outreach and fosters academic community.
Book Club
Each book club meets three times (one hour each) over two months and every book is facilitated by a different faculty member. Previous book clubs have read Formative Assessment by Dylan Wiliam and Make It Stick by Peter Brown, Henry Roediger and Mark McDaniel.
Leadership Academy at Touro University (LATU)
Started in 2018, LATU (formerly known as TCALM) is currently working with its sixth cohort. LATU is an innovative program that prepares participants to develop and refine the skills and competencies needed to assume successively advanced leadership positions. As a pathway for professional growth, the Academy builds on the strengths of the individual participants through workshops, seminars, and team-building experiences that are designed to enhance an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in higher education today. A goal is to foster greater exposure to the scope of the various locations, schools, programs, and departments of Touro University. Sessions focus on deepening skills through discussion and practical experience with leadership foundations such as problem-solving, communication, and collaboration in higher education.
Faculty Focus Newsletter
Published out of the Office of the Provost (Graduate and Professional Divisions), in conjunction with the Academic Affairs team, since the summer of 2015, Faculty Focus provides important announcements and updates on Touro University related activities, projects, grants and initiatives. The newsletter also gathers and lists faculty presentations/ awards/ publications/ honors; presents curated upcoming research opportunities for faculty/ webinars and blog articles in the area of learning and teaching; and sources resources for faculty from the library and Canvas. Further, every month, the Provost (or guest) writes a short review of a book related to learning and teaching. Fulbright U.S. Scholar ProgramFulbright U.S. Scholar Program (opens in a new tab)
The U.S. Fulbright Scholar Program offers nearly 470 teaching, research or combination teaching/research awards in over 125 countries. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others. In addition to several new program models designed to meet the changing needs of U.S. academics and professionals, Fulbright is offering more opportunities for flexible, multi-country grants.
Once a year, Fulbright staff conduct a workshop for Touro Faculty on the Fulbright Scholar Program. The next workshop will be in March 2019. For more information, please reach out to Touro University Fulbright Scholar Liaison, Dr. Rima Aranha: rima.aranha@touro.edu.
Touro College Faculty Innovation Grant Program
Initiated in 2019, these grants are intended to promote student success and excellence in teaching through the development of innovative instructional methods, new methods of assessing learning or the redesign of courses using technology. For the 2019-2020 competition, in addition to funding proposals on innovation and excellence for teaching excellence and assessment described above, grant applications are especially encouraged that will also develop strategies for interdisciplinary approaches for appropriately building health care concepts into non-health care curricular offerings. In the 2019-2020 competition cycle, seven projects were awarded grants (six from the undergraduate division, one from the professional division and one from the graduate division).
Office for Interprofessional Collaboration and Education (OIPCE)
The Office for Interprofessional Collaboration and Education (OIPCE) brings together faculty and students from all Touro University professional health programs/schools to learn how to support effective health care teams. The Office serves as a focal point for interprofessional collaboration among students and faculty from more than twenty professional programs across the university.
CETL Faculty Fellows
Beginning in June 2024, the faculty fellows programs engages two faculty members to work with CETL staff to work on a project to further advance teaching and learning at Touro University.
Mixed Reality Lab
Launched in 2024, the Mixed Reality Lab at Touro University serves as an immersive teaching and learning resource space for faculty and students. Equipped with state-of-the-art virtual and augmented reality technology, the lab enables interactive simulations, 3D modeling, and innovative pedagogical approaches across various disciplines. Faculty are encouraged to explore how Mixed Reality can enhance classroom experiences and engage students in new and meaningful ways.
